Different Traits Affect Salinity and Drought Tolerance during Germination of Citrullus colocynthis, a Potential Cash Crop in Arid Lands

چکیده
Citrullus colocynthis, a native plant with potential uses as feedstock for edible oil, biodiesel, and animal feed make it cash crop. The importance of propagating this species under saline arid habitats necessitates understanding environmental factors affecting salinity drought tolerance during the germination stage. Here, we assessed impacts seed collection time, temperature incubation on salinity, stage different accessions growing in botanical garden University Sharjah. No previous study interactive effects these species. Three (9, 10, 13) differed fruit size color, behavior, were selected from an earlier study. Seeds that matured summer winter treated three salinities (0, 50, 100 mM NaCl), PEG levels ?0.3, ?0.6 MPa) incubated at two temperatures (20/30 25/35 °C). results showed significant all (collection temperature, drought, salinity) their interactions percentage. C. colocynthis very sensitive to stress, sensitivity depended time collection, accession, temperature. overall significantly greater seeds accession summer, °C. NaCl solutions was than solutions, indicating more osmotic stress created by NaCl. Moreover, when transferred NaCl, recovery ungerminated solutions. This result indicates detrimental effect could be mainly attributed rather ion-toxicity effects. To adopt crop or restore degraded desert habitats, is recommended use drought- salt-tolerant (e.g., 10), especially those mature summer.

The current study aimed to investigate the effect of two abiotic stresses including salinity and drought on seed germination characteristics of Allyssum hamalocarpum in vitro. The experiment was designed as factorial completely randomized with four replications. Treatment included five levels of drought i.e. 0, – 0.19, – 0.25, – 0.41 and – 0.99 Mpa and five levels of salinity including 0, 50, 1...

A qualitative and qwantitative study of the glycosidnl content of the different organs and parts of Citrullus colocynthis SCHRAD. were undertaken. Qualitative study revealed the presence af a-elateri~r 2-D-glucopyranoside and its aglycone in all organs; cucurbitacin B, I , and'L (both free and glycosidal forms) in stents, leaves, and fruits. A suggested procedure for the estimation of a-elateri...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Citrullus colocynthis Transcriptome during Water Deficit Stress
Citrullus colocynthis is a very drought tolerant species, closely related to watermelon (C. lanatus var. lanatus), an economically important cucurbit crop. Drought is a threat to plant growth and development, and the discovery of drought inducible genes with various functions is of great importance. We used high throughput mRNA Illumina sequencing technology and bioinformatic strategies to anal...
متن کاملMapping Salinity Tolerance during Arabidopsis thaliana Germination and Seedling Growth
To characterize and dissect genetic variation for salinity tolerance, we assessed variation in salinity tolerance during germination and seedling growth for a worldwide sample of Arabidopsis thaliana accessions. By combining QTL mapping, association mapping and expression data, we identified genomic regions involved in salinity response. Among the worldwide sample, we found germination ability ...

In order to study the effects of salinity stress on growth indices of three clover species including, Trifolium resupinatum, T. alexandrinum, and T. incarnatum, an experiment was conducted as factorial based on a completely randomized design arrangement with three replications. Factors included seven levels of salinity stress (0, 41, 82, 123, 164, 205, and 246 mM) and three clover species. Diff...
